How to Online vehicle deregistration in a few minutes

Here we would like to explain how you can deregister your vehicle online via the KfzPortal24 platform. It is important to note that only vehicles that were last registered after January 1, 2015 can be deregistered online.

1. Preparation:

To deregister your vehicle online (or on site), you will need the following documents and items:

• Registration certificate part I (also called vehicle registration document) - you will usually have this in the glove compartment of the vehicle you want to deregister
• The license plates belonging to the vehicle
• One of our many payment methods (Klarna, Paypal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Giro or Credit Card)

2. Procedure:

We have developed a simple 4-step process for you to deregister your vehicle. In summary, it looks like this:

• Vehicle data
• Security codes of the registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document) and the license plates
• Reservation of the license plate on the vehicle
• Secure payment via our payment provider Stripe

3. Vehicle data:

The vehicle data consists of two points. We need the license plate number and the vehicle identification number. Both of these data can be found in the registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document).

4. Security code of the registration certificate:

In the next step, we need to validate the registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document). To do this, carefully peel off the green foil from the bottom right. This will reveal a 7-digit security code, which we will need in step 3.

5. Validation of the license plates:

In step 4, we need to validate the license plates, front and rear. To do this, we have to remove the security codes at the bottom between the location code and the selectable letters. This is easiest to do carefully with a coin and will also reveal a three-digit security code.

6. License plate reservation:

If you plan to re-register your vehicle in the future and would like to keep your current license plate combination, you can reserve it specifically for your vehicle when deregistering via KfzPortal24. In this case, the reservation remains valid for 12 months.

7. Payment:

After you have checked your data once again, you can finalize your order. You will be redirected to the page of our payment service provider Stripe, where you have the option to pay directly with Apple or Google Pay, Klarna, Giro Pay or credit card, depending on your device.

8. Completion:

After successful payment, your data will be automatically forwarded to our internal approval experts for verification. They will contact you if there are any questions or discrepancies in the data. Once the check has been completed, your documents will be forwarded to the relevant authority. You will usually receive your deregistration confirmation from us by email within 24 hours.
